Back at it!

So we’ve been here for a while now! Its fairly awesome to have our own house with our little bit of land and our own walls to decorate.

Since I’m pretty much resigned to being a stay at home mom and whatnot I decided to re-launch the blog with some of our upcoming adventures. Its coming on spring, that means  chickens, gardening and designing our little homestead! I’ve been working on fun crochet things that I’ll be sharing as I go, mostly graphs but also hats and skirt.

We just survived a pretty epic snow storm, our little corner got about 36inches. Didn’t even lose power, thankfully (and the Trampoline didn’t blow away!)blizzard

You’ll see I have new pages soon! I’m adding a section on Homesteading (Chickens, quail and gardening), cooking (cheesemaking, fun recipes and cakes), health and wellness, and Crochet and Weaving.

Hope you enjoy being part of the ride if you stick with me! I’m trying to get this going.

What What?

Its a mess, I need my husband home to hang shelves and baby proof! I am not loving not having a dishwasher, but I think after Hazel starts sleeping in her room I’ll start trying to do the dishes then.

Everything else is amazing. We have space, I can do random things, we have the deck to play on and the kids are so happy!

The boy child got his mattress and a bed tent- from his aunt (who is 11 and grew out of it ;)) and the girl child is getting her pink critter room. I love it.

Everyone is happy. Maybe not so much my husband who is still driving an obsene amount to work and pick up things we need. But hopefully everything settles down here soon!

The Move

So I messed up with scheduling the blog posts but we closed on our house on the 4th, and only had a week to move. Ugh.

I threw some paint up in the living room and kids rooms and my poor husband did the brunt of the moving with a few friends helping for the big stuff then every night afterwork for the rest! It was bad.

I also got a dog. An 8 year old golden retriever named Rosie who is officially my bff!

Mandalas

i’m still working on my mandalas, I’m getting better! So far these are my favorites:

the blue was my first attempt.

Something kind of soothing about the repetitiveness and change. The above pattern is from A Creative Being.

I have little to write about but I will soon.

Happy crafting/hooking/sewing 🙂

Thats My Jam

We’re starting a “homeschool” program with the boy child here soon.

I have printables, a giant work book and a board full of over the top crafts for kids that there is little to no chance we will ever do. I MEAN I’M TOTALLY PREPARED! We can’t figure out how to afford sending him to a preschool so another year at home but I’ll be damned if he isn’t going to learn something this year!

The biggest problem is I’m not a teacher. I’m not a teacher personality type. I get frustrated too easy and have problems putting my thoughts together and organizing my words before they pop out of my head.  But that’s what workbooks are for, right?

Luckily for me my boy is smart. He’s a little brat face but he’s smart. So hopefully we’ll get through this okay. And if not, he’s really good on computers and can spell his name…. That’s like… preschool level requirements right?

And my hopes of going to a craft show are dashed (well for that particular one at least) because they changed it to a barter show… I don’t really know how to barter crochet chicken hats and hanging dish towels for things that I actually need so… I guess I’ll be looking for another show to register for. It seems like there should be lots in this little artsy farsty city but unfortunately most of the people running these events seem to not be aware of the existence of the internet. Or I’m too dependent on the internet.

And finally, lately all of my crochet projects are more time consuming and end up funky because my tiny human grabs my yarn and pulls (while grunting “PUUUUULLLL”) while I’m trying to work. I really need a better workspace. Or a room where I can turn a light on after everyone is asleep to crochet. Is that too much to ask?

How does anyone get anything done ever after having kids? I’m flailing here.

Tumblr and Social Media

My 16 year old sister wanted me to Tumblr.

I have no idea what that is, I signed up, treated it like a blog, felt old when everyone ignored my presence (tumbling?) Not because I’m desperate for attention, but because it seemed like it should be easy. People post, interact and all that goodness. But I just felt old on Tumblr. I’ll stick to my pinterests and facebookings.

I’m on facebook, Cultivating Crazy, and pinterest- Follow Me on Pinterest.

My husband is all about twitter but its too much for me.

I feel so old!

Peace out!

Cultivating Lazy

I really have done nothing the past two weeks.

Pretty much I’ve just pinned a bunch of stuff that I want to make on Pinterest, cleaned the kitchen enough to make dinner (and you know, not violate any health codes), and snuggled with my kids.

I remember when summers used to be fun. Now I’ve got 2 kids under 5, no car, and its so freaking hot I don’t want to go anywhere.

So to motivate myself I’m debating signing up for a craft/farm stuff show. I have nothing made. I’d want a ton of hats crocheted, maybe some bags, some of my embroidered dish towels and stuff. I think I’ll aim for one in September. Just get myself going here.

Ps. the 14th is the kill date for maybe getting our house. Heres hoping no one puts an offer on it before then.

So anyways…

Since we are apparently not moving up in the world and staying in the apartment a little longer I’m sucking it up and getting my store going sans house.

This week I’ve…

Realized how sad adulthood is. Do you even want to know how excited I got about this dish rack???

Super geeky excited.

And I finished my first Mandala for Wink.

Zooty Owl pattern! If you are a crocheter and hadn’t heard the tragic news about one of our own- Wink from A Creative Being lost her fight with depression. I’ve always admired her talent and I’m working on my second Mandala- one of hers, this week.

Have a good week everyone!

Tiny Farm Yard

i dug out my sewing machine yesterday I have been trying to sew. Trying. Hazel goes all Xena Warrior Princess whenever I turn it on.

The chickens are proving to be slightly more work then I anticipated. But in a good way!

Hazel loves them, there are only 4 that tolerate her of the 7 though… Haha.

The jersey Giants- Jitters and Jinx, love her now that they realized she’s usually got food on her. They’re really more like Labradors then chickens.

Then Olive. She’s going through an independent streak but still seems to love Hazel.

I love my little Olive bird.

And of the olive eggers…

Opal is turning quite sweet. She’s getting her feathers and is a little too uncomfortable to be touched much. But she still engages with us and seems to enjoy our company more then the others.

My other three- Penny, Gambit and Peanut, are not unfriendly but are still nervous. I’m working on it but the kids are too loud for them right now.

Chickens are definitely more fun then I thought they’d be. They have more personality and are smarter then I imagined.
I’m totally in love!
